Today is a special day! Well actually Saturday was, but who’s counting? This weekend marked my two year blogoversary! I have officially been blogging for two entire years- wow! My little baby blog had grown and grown and grown and I am so incredibly happy about it! Obviously my blog would be zero without the love and support of my family, friends and readers so before we share in some memories past, I just wanted to say:
I really can’t believe how much this little blog has grown in two years and how many people actually READ and ENJOY what I have to say! It’s amazing! Thank you, seriously, to everyone that has ever read my words for one post or every single one. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for supporting me, reading, sharing and laughing along the way with me. It’s awesome.
Getting ready for this post, I looked back at my One Year Blogoversary and couldn’t believe where my blog was a year ago and how much it has grown since then! I have learned an incredible amount over the past year not only about blogging but about design, formatting, html code, social media strategies, marketing, photography and editing.
In the past year…
My blog has received a HUGE facelift and all over design overhaul. When I first started this blogging journey, I was on blogger and then transistioned to WordPress a few months later. I had originally done all my “design” myself, and while I think I did an ok job and really learned a lot, there was still a HUGE amount of things that I didn’t know (and some that I still don’t know) so when I got my overhaul, it was just an improvement. Our Three Peas is now much more streamlined with it’s design, structure and fonts. I really love it and has that fun feel to it without screaming “mommy blog!!”
I have seen enormous growth! At my one year mark I averaged 4.000 page views a month, and at the present moment I receive an average of 14,000 views and have on average over 10,000 unique visitors, which are individual people. That means over 10,000 people every.single.month click on my blog and read a post or two. That really just blows my mind. Of course, I am always working at increasing that and hope that when I am sitting writing my three year blogoversary post I have met that goal! At the one year mark I had written 240 posts and had 550 comments, at the two year mark I have written 540 posts (not including this one!) and have received 11,754 comments on my blog. That may not mean anything to you, but going from 550 comments to well over 10,000 means that more people are reading my work and actually liking it enough to stop what they are doing and writing me to say so! That’s amazing! If you have ever left me a comment, thank you! If you haven’t, that’s ok and today is a great day to start! Commenting lets me know what you like or do not like and allows a conversation to start.
I have actually started making money from my blog!! Now THAT’S awesome huh??? Of course, I do love writing for the sake of writing and sharing what I know, but I’m a stay at home mom and if I can get paid some to do what I love then count me in! Higher numbers on my blog means people actually want to hitch their carriage to my blog-horse and use me to help promote their companies. Now, while I know I will never “sell out” in a sense and only write about all sponsored crap, I pride myself of being able to weave in some of that sponsored content about companies I truly believe in so that not only do I make a little money, but I am helping to connect my readers to some pretty great products. My first year I spent some money getting my blog up and running and made zero in return. This year I have made more than I have spent, and while it wouldn’t nearly be enough to retire on, it makes me feel like a real big girl blogger to be getting paid some for doing what I love.
I have grown my social media following tremendously! I honestly cannot remember where my numbers sat at year one, but I know it was max a couple hundred (if that) for each network. Currently, I have combined 7,773 people “following” me across the board, which is just crazy town! Yes, yes, I know of bloggers that have that on ONE channel, but for me, I am proud of it. The more people that like or follow me means that more people are wanting to read what I am writing, which is just great! So if you are following me, or subscribe to me, or like my Facebook page- thank you!!
I have successfully started a link up and it’s still going strong! For all you non-bloggers out there, a link up is like a blogging “party” where everyone brings a post or two and shares them with the group. It’s a fun way to spread your content out there and also to meet some amazing bloggers. A year ago I wrote that I wanted to start one and I can now say I have successfully hosted my own link up with three other amazing bloggers for almost 50 weeks! WOW! Wine’d Down Wednesday is a fun place to come and share your best posts- it’s where fun, blogging and wine meet. If you haven’t linked up with us before, I invite you to do so and join the party! It’s going on every Wednesday!
I have met some awesome, awesome, awesome bloggers an consider many of them friends. Yes, you non bloggers may think it’s strange to consider people that you have never met “friends” but that’s what makes blogging so special. Some of the coolest, funniest and strongest people I “know” I know through my blog. Many of them I connect with on a daily basis in groups or messaging and it’s really great. I love my community of bloggers- everyone is so supportive, friendly and knows just what you mean when you say you can’t figure out how to get a particular plug in to work, or that a widget is acting funny, or that you are struggling with coming up ideas for a post. It’s refreshing to have people that understand your language!
Along with all the things I have done this past year, there are more things I want to do, here are some of them.
My goals for the next year…
Attend a blogging conference. (someday!!!)
Keep my numbers growing.
Continue to write content that people like to read, find helpful and find engaging.
Start my newsletter. (I swear!)
Submit a post to Scary Mommy. (I REALLY want to do this and have finally figured out what to write, now to actually write it and have the balls to submit it to her!)
I plan on working hard at all of these goals and have high hopes of accomplishing them. Now if Scary Mommy accepts and publishes my post?? That’s yet to be determined. 🙂
Over the past year I have written some great posts, some of them very, very popular!! We have laughed and laughed when I shared about hilarious things my kids fight over, ways to spot a first time kinder mom, all the reasons my daughter just CANNOT wear those pants, why you should NOT let your kids pick up trash at night. We all nodded in agreement about the murphy’s laws of parenting, 10 legitimate reasons to wear yoga pants everyday, weird stuff my kids have said when playing Minecraft. Who knew how similar wine and juice boxes are or all the truths about taking a road trip with kids? Inspired by our Lego Land trip, I shared some truths about going to an amusement park with kids, then shared posts my kids would write if they had a blog, and about all the ridiculous things I said I would never do as a mom, but then totally did anyways…
Some of my favorite recipes were my husband’s ahhh-mazing bolognese sauce, sweet potato cauliflower soup, how to make simple Mickey and Minnie cupcakes, delicious infused water recipes, sugar cookies pancakes, broccoli and cheese soup, chewy apple oat bars, and simple school morning breakfast ideas…
Some of my favorite tips for moms posts were 50 ways to practice spelling words, tips for flying with kids, time saving tips for busy moms, tips for traveling with kids by car, tips for keeping your kids busy when you get sick, ways to make your child a better reader, and tips for cooling down without a pool…
My most popular post thus far with a whopping 250 comments on it was my post on How I Triple My Page Views in 3 Months! I wrote that post in October and I am still getting hits on it today! And I had my Obnoxious status updates from my kid-less friends post highlighted in Parenting Magazine- wow, I’ve been busy!
Lastly, the other thing that has happened in the last year was becoming apart of the writing team at Daily Mom! This is such an amazing online magazine for moms with a great team of smart, talented and amazing mothers. I hope you check me out there as well as here.
This has been one great year for Our Three Peas and I really thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has grown from a little blog that I was sure NO ONE would read, into what you see today. Here’s to year three and I can’t wait to see what’s in store next- I’ll drink to that!
I dedicate this post to my amazing husband and kids- for without their love, support, and from the kids- oodles of ideas for posts- I wouldn’t have all of this bloggy goodness. Thank you for supporting me on this journey and encouraging me to carry on, no matter what and for alway being proud of me- thank you XOXO
