I have a new craft to share with you today that you’re kids will love: homemade glittery Kool-Aid play dough.
This is an easy craft to make but MESSY. Once it’s all done, though, it’s easy to store and use again and again. It also uses ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. I had everything except the Kool-Aid!
Each batch will make one large ball of play-dough.
What you will need:
1 1/4 c flour
1/4 c. salt
1 Tbs. cream of tarter
1-2 packs of Kool-Aid (one color per ball)*
1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
close-tight container to store play dough
– Mix the first four ingredients in a large bowl. Add in the water and oil and mix well with a large spoon.
– When all the ingredients are moistened, turn dough onto either wax paper or onto a floured counter and mix by hand, adding more flour as you kneed, to reduce stickiness. (take off any rings! trust me). As you are kneading, add in as much or as little glitter as you wish. I did a good amount and mixed it in with my hands as I worked with the dough.
Keep kneading until you have a nice ball:
When it’s ready, it will be pliable but not stick to your hands when you play with it.
* My colors were a tad bit lighter than I would have liked so next time, I will probably add two packs of Kool-Aid per batch. I used red, pink, yellow, orange and purple. My store didn’t have blue or green but I’d still like to make those two colors!
This play-dough will last almost forever if you store it in the fridge in between uses. It will stay soft and ready for hours of play.
One note: This dough is a bit stickier than traditional play dough so it WILL stick to clothes and carpets. Make sure you lay out an old blanket when you are using it!
My kids LOVED this recipe and played for over an hour with it. I got some new, small screw-shut containers for each play-dough so the colors wouldn’t get mixed up. I hope your kids love it as much as mine!
