It’s no secret I love farmhouse decor. After my two crafts of painting some old milk bottles and then making a rustic center piece, I was hooked! I wanted to make one more this and do this super cute simple rustic farmhouse crate was created! It had a rustic feel and cost me just a few dollars to make. You may even have these items hanging around your house too! It looks beautiful next to my farmhouse painted bottles on the table behind my couch.
This rustic farmhouse crate was so easy to make and only took a few minutes. The main part is the actual crate, which is a wooden CD crate that I got at the craft store for a few dollars. I bought mine, but you may have one laying around from your old CD collection, so be sure to look around first! I sanded it first just a little bit to be sure the paint would stick and then gave it a coat of white paint.
I painted the outside with a couple coats of just regular white craft paint and one coat on the inside. If you want a more rustic look, you can use some sand paper and scrape some of the paint off. I did a little of that to mine, but not too much. After your crate is fully dried then you fill it! The fun part about this is you can literally fill it with whatever you want!
For mine, I filled it with a green mossy sphere, a faux jade sphere, a faux boxwood sphere and then two yarn balls I made, one in gray and one in blue.
To make the yarn balls, you just hot glue a piece of thick yarn onto a styrofoam ball and continue wrapping it until it’s totally covered! I made a bunch of these as Christmas ornaments last year and they are just so cute. You can see a better tutorial on how to make those here.
I just loved how this little box turned out! It was super easy to make and add a pop of color to my living room. It’s been so fun adding farmhouse touches to my house, I wonder what my next project should be??
