School is here and school means HOMEWORK!! Homework can be a battle with some kids- I know my kids come home tired and want to veg out so they can sometimes put up a fuss when it comes to homework time. I like to have my kids decompress a bit with a snack and telling me about their day and then get the homework done and out of the way, so we can enjoy the rest of the afternoon. Homework can be done in different places, but most kids do their best working on their homework in a public place, like the kitchen or a family room. We do our homework in the kitchen and decided this year to make a simple homework basket, to help speed up the process of getting that work done! Since we don’t have a desk to work at, sometimes getting all the supplies they need could be a chore. This basket keeps everything in one place, so everyone has all the things they need- ready to do!
To make my basket, I used three things:
1. A basket
2. Mason jars
Here’s what’s included in my basket:
1. Thin Markers
2. Fat Markers
3. Sharpened pencils
4. Colored pencils
6. Glue sticks
8. Kid scissors
9. White glue
10. Post-its (for taking notes or marking an important page in a book)
This was obviously very simple to make and allows my kids to have access to all of the supplies they may need which eliminates them getting up and down looking for things. We can pull it out at homework time and then I store it on a shelf when we are done, thus ensuring the supplies STAY in there for the nest day!
The kids really like it and it was a very simple thing that made homework just a bit easier, which I’ll take- for sure!
Where do your kids do their homework? What system do you have for organizing their supplies?
