Christmas is my very favorite time of year and it’s such a great time to get extra crafty. There are so so SO many options of things to make on your own to add to your home holiday decor, and many are easy to make! One of the simplest ways to add a homemade touch to your home, is by making some DIY ornaments. You can keep them simple or get extravagant with them, but either way, they’ll look stunning on your tree! These super simple paper straw ornaments are definitely on the easier side to make, and will add a touch of fun and whimsy to your Christmas tree!
These pretty paper straw trees can be completely customizable to what ever color your decor is and are so simple to make!
To make these, you’ll need:
8-10 paper straws per tree
ribbon or jute twine to hang
I like the traditional red, green and white colors for my holiday decor so when I found these straws in the dollar spot at Target, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them! I made three trees and used three different combos of straws to make them all a little different.
First, you will need to hot glue two straws together to be the backbone or “trunk” of your tree. I used hot glue so it would dry immediately, but you could use another type of glue if you wanted.
Once dry, you will need to cut the straws to be the tree. You will want to start at the top of the tree and cut a small piece to be the top and then keep cutting the color straws you want, each a little wider than the previous one. I just eyeballed the cuts, but you could always measure if want them perfect!
Once you have all of your pieces, you will want to glue them on, leaving some space at the top for the star and then cutting off the bottom to make the trunk the length you want.
To make the star, I cut a star she out of white thick paper and then used mod podge to cover it with glitter, using glitter paper would certainly be easier though if you have some! Glue the star at the top and the twine on the back do it can be hung up.
These paper straw tree ornaments would be a fun craft for kids to make, just be careful with the hot glue! They are easy to make and look so festive hanging on the tree! They would make great gift tags too, or you could make a bunch and hang them as garland.
