If you have school aged kids like me, then chances are you are always on the go from one place to another. I am always looking for ways to save time when it comes to meal planning and snacks, but only if they fit into our healthy lifestyle. I won’t sacrifice quality just because it’s quick. One of my kid’s very favorite quick snacks or add-on’s to breakfast are the little bottles of Dannon® Danimals® yogurt smoothies. They have been drinking them for years! Recently Dannon has partnered with Play 60 to promote healthy, active and creative kids and decorated the bottles with sports themed characters. My youngest just loves these bottles and it always inspires her to want to “make believe”, so to keep her inspired, I created this super simple DIY felt board, so she can drink her smoothie and create and recreate masterpieces in a jiffy!
Like I said, we have been drinking these Dannon® Danimals® for AGES. My kids refer to them as “drinky yogurts” and just love them. I love how simple they are have with breakfast, as part of there after school snack, or to take when we are in the car doing errands or going on a road trip. These Dannon® Danimals® provide “Only the Good Stuff®” with no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors, as well providing a good source of calcium and vitamin D, so I feel great about letting them have one.
Anytime I’m shopping at my neighborhood Walmart, I swing by the yogurt and cheese aisle and grab some. They come in 6 and 12 packs, but with three kids, we don’t even mess with the smaller packs! I love how Dannon has partnered with the NFL Play 60 contest! They have hidden certain packs with a “Golden Bongo” bottle (located in specially marked packages), and if find one, you could win a Play60 Field Day for your children’s school with NFL pros! Check out the Fuel Up To Play Site for more details.
Aren’t these bottles so cute?? All of these characters really are exciting for my 5 year old and she can’t wait to see what her monkey is dressed like when I hand her a bottle. She has quite an imagination and when she sees certain ones, she immediately wants to pretend she’s part of whatever he’s dressed up as, which is why we love playing with our felt board- since there is literally zero mess and she can create and recreate again and again without having to do anything! The felt just sticks to itself so she can make something and then take the pieces down and start again- best of all, it took just a few minutes to make and was super cheap!
To make your own felt board, here’s what you’ll need:
felt (big blue and green and then regular sizes of any decorations you want to add!)
Cut your blue to cover the whole foam board and then a strip of green to be the grass at the bottom.
In a well ventilated area (I did mine outside) spray the foam board with your glue and then place the blue on it, being sure to quickly smooth the surface. Then do the same for the green and leave it outside for a few minutes since the glue smell is pretty strong.
Then you can cut out whatever you want to play with on the board. I just free handed these (as you can probably tell!) and did trees, bushes, flowers, a sun, a pond, fishies and a pumpkin. I plan on making more later, but these were a great start! Once your board is dry, you are set to go! The glue sets pretty fast but just wait a little for it not to smell like glue anymore.
Like I said, the felt sticks to itself, so you don’t glue or tape these on and you can play again and again and again! My daughter has been loving creating little scenes with her felt and has already been making me a list of what else she wants for me to make.
You can create seasonal pieces or ones for holidays. You can make animals, plants, people- anything! If you are crafty enough, you can even recreate scenes from your child’s favorite book.
So inspire your child to be as creative as they wish by making one of these so simple diy felt boards! They can sip on their yummy Dannon® Danimals® smoothies and imagine they are whatever they want on their boards.
