I’m still on a homemade ornament kick over here! Last week we made some super cute Paper Straw Tree Ornaments and today I wanted to show how to make some of my favorite ornaments I’ve ever made, these gorgeous Paper Pinwheel Ornaments!
These Paper Pinwheels are SO easy to make and really add a pop to your tree. I made a bunch a few years ago, and wanted to make a few more this year. You can use any type or color paper for these too, so they can be completely customized to match your decor.
To make these, you will need:
two strips of paper, 2 in x 26 in
scissors
ruler
hot glue
stapler
tape
hole punch
ribbon or twine to hang
Start by cutting your paper. The tricky part is finding paper long enough, but you can do a few things. You can either use butcher paper in contrasting colors, or use scrapbook paper (which is often 12×12) and tape strips together to make a longer one, or you can so what I did this time and use wrapping paper! Since you need it printed on both sides, you can use a glue stick and fold a 4 in piece in half and glue them together, you can’t even tell! Just keep the folded edges together when you fold so the glued edge will be the back of it.
Once you have your long strips, staple them together in a L shape like shown, then you will begin to fold.
You need to fold them back and forth on top of one another until you get to the end. They will stack like a little accordion. Trim off any extra you have.
Then you will open it and connect the two ends with some tape so it makes this pretty pin wheel! I like to stick a little hot glue in the center to help hold it together too. Then, lastly, punch a hole though the top and tie some ribbon or twine to hang them.
Like you can see, you can use solid paper, pattered paper, or even glittery paper so that your paper pinwheel can perfectly match whatever you have on your tree. This is a great craft for kids too, just show them how to fold it and let them have at it! They look really beautiful on your tree, I just love mine!
