What?? Yes, you read that right. On Saturday Aug 10th, I had officially been blogging for an entire year. Not one for being fussed over, this blogoversary isn’t filled will star studded guests or big, fancy giveaways…nope. I didn’t even say anything about it on Saturday because I’ve never made days about me a big deal. Note the picture in my cute blogoversary collage, me with the balloons, I couldn’t find any of me on my actual birthday, because normally I just spend my birthday folding clothes or something unexciting like that, so I picked that one because it “looked” like a birthday picture (even though it’s just me getting balloons for my kid’s school carnival). I can’t even remember the last time I went out for my birthday! I guess that happens when you have kids :/ And the wine bottle?? Well, if I am going to waste some calories, it certainly isn’t going to be on CAKE. It’s going to be on wine 🙂
Well, first of all, I want to thank everyone that reads my blog. Whether you are a die-hard fan (do I even have any of those??) or a one time stopper-byer; I say THANK YOU! It still astonishes me that people even want to read my stuff. I have been told that I am a “great writer”. Wha??? ME?? Why, thank you! I love blogging for many reasons. I wrote about in my first post that I dedicated my blog to my mama, who always told me I should write (when I had been pondering starting it for over a year), and even though she never actually got to read any of my posts, I know she is proud of what I have done and how far I have come in a year.
How far has this little blog grown over a year? Well, quite a bit, actually! I started on Blogger and transitioned to my own self-hosted word press site. I have written 240 posts and have received over 550 comments on my writing. I started with just my personal face book page and pinterest, and now have a blog face book page and twitter account. Lately, it seems like my blog is FINALLY “taking off” (in a baby bird sort of way). I have doubled the number of Pinterest and Twitter followers I had in the last few months and am gaining new face book “likes” everyday. I used to be excited to hit 100 page views a day, and now I am getting over 300 some days. Last month I had over 4,000 page views over the whole month and I am on track to beat that this month. Now, I know numbers aren’t everything, but when you don’t actually get paid to write, it’s nice to know that all my hard work isn’t in vain. I have gotten much better at learning the technical side of blogging as well, which is exciting. I am getting better at making my own images and blog design and am learning more everyday.
I primarily love blogging to share about us and be honest about motherhood. Sometimes it sucks and it’s ok to say that. Some people see me and say to me “I don’t know how you do it all!”. The blog is my way of sharing that you don’t always have to be perfect, but you can still look fabulous while pretending (note the tag line above)! It’s also great to share some of our family stories with out of town family. I know I write about a variety of topics: recipes, running, organization, couponing (a speck), crafts and the kids…but to me that’s what being a mother is. Unfortunately, we don’t JUST get to cook OR clean OR entertain the kids, we have to do it all, so that’s why I write about all of it; in my own funny sort of way. My take is if you can’t laugh at life then you are headed for disaster anyways 🙂
One of the best parts about blogging is meeting other bloggers, online anyways. It always amazes me when a “bigger” blogger will read or share my stuff. If you ever have shared a post for me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If I ever “make it” blogging and become some big famous mommy blogger, I will never be too big to read other’s work and share their posts, because us bloggers need to stick together and remember we were all small once. Someday I hope to attend a blogging conference and maybe meet some of my “bloggy buddies” in real life!
I have shared oodles of stories with you all over this past year and some of my favorites have been sharing about bedtime, what it’s like eating out with three kids, things no mother would say and the crazy things that happen when you have three kids. Who could forget that old Asian lady at church or Felix’s mother?? Not me! I’ve also shared some more serious things too, like some prayers I have for my babies and about my son’s RTA and one a few very personal posts about me growing up and my mama. I LOVE writing my Top Ten lists and *may* even make it a link up some day, if I ever feel brave enough. Some of my favorite top tens have been about wine in a box, why I like shopping ALONE, and why I may want to punch you in the face (I’m thinking I’ll be doing a sequel to that one soon).
As I embark on year #2 of blogging I hope to continue to grow and write what’s true to my heart…and, with these kids, I’m sure I’ll always have a plethora of hilarious stories to share. Thanks again for reading and joining me on this journey!
Whoo hoo for year two!
