Are you a real tree family or a fake tree family?? I am, and will always be, a REAL tree lover! I’ve always had a real tree and love everything about it: choosing the right one, the smell of it, the look of it- all of it! Even in the hot dry desert I have a real tree. We like to get our tree from Home Depot- seriously! They always have a great selection and they are huge! (and no, they aren’t a sponsor haha!)
This year we headed on over to choose our tree and the kids had a blast looking at them all.
The kids finally choose the right one, it was just the right height and nice and full- and smelled wonderful of course!
When we got home it was time to decorate! We did the lights and ribbons and the let the kids help with the ornaments. I love watching them pull all of the ornaments out of the box and remembering each of them.
Their favorite, of course, are their baby ornaments! These are very special to me too and three of my very favorite ornaments we hang watch year.
Did you buy an ornament for each of your kids? These are ours. They are so special and colorful.
These are my “Days of our Lives” ornaments. I watched this show for over 20 something years and each Christmas the families decorated the Horton Family tree with hand painted name ornaments so I decided to make my own- not nearly as fancy, of course! I should paint some, someday.
Like any mom, we have oodles of hand made ornaments from school too. These were make from my older two in there kindergarten class. Next year we will get our third and final kinder ornament. I love the little hand prints.
More handmade goodness: school ornaments and salt dough creations, hand painted with love that get hung year after year.
A few years ago Abby made this star. It took her ages and she loves hanging it herself every year.
Certain ornaments tell a story as well, like this pretty angel. When Abby was a year and a half we found out we were pregnant. We lost that baby at 11 weeks and I dedicated this ornament to him. I hang it by my other baby ornaments each year on the tree. It’s one of my favorites.
This ornament is one of the most special to me, and it isn’t from my kids, it was to my mom from my brother, sister and I. We bought it for her forever ago and hung on our tree when we were kids. Now it hangs on my tree and I think of her when I hang it. She loved it and so do I.
Despite the lack of professional quality in this picture (haha!) I love how happy they are. They love decorating the tree as much as we do and I love sharing this tradition with them each and every year!
