Dessert is one of my favorite meals of the day- but one I try and avoid it for the obvious reasons (seeing that bathing suit season is right around them corner!). While I am trying to watch my calorie intake, I know cutting out all sweets isn’t a really good option, since it will just make me crave them more, but instead I like to substitute something that will satisfy that sweet tooth but won’t ruin the hard work I’ve done during the day. Here’s where today’s recipe comes into play! By combing my love of peanut butter and chocolate, this lighter peanut butter cup smoothie is only 270 calories and has 17 grams of protein, so it’s a nice sweet treat, but won’t make you feel blahhhh.
Chocolate peanut butter cups are one of my favorite treats, and don’t have too many calories on their own, but who has the kind of will power to eat just one of those mini guys?! Not me! So when I am craving some peanut butter cups, instead I like to reach for my blender and whip up one of these yummy smoothies instead. They are a great meal replacement or a quick breakfast when I am on the go- or are the perfect dessert to split with your significant other after the kids are in bed. Made with only 5 ingredients, they are a lighter version of their traditional candy counterpart.
To make one large smoothie, you’ll need:
1 frozen banana
3/4 cup low fat chocolate milk (any kind of dairy is fine!)
1/4 cup low fat Dannon vanilla yogurt
chocolate sauce (for drizzling)
Have you tried Jif’s new peanut powder?? It’s SO yummy and has 7 grams per serving. It’s gluten free and the perfect combination of creamy and the fresh-roasted peanut taste you love, in a much easier to blend form. It’s perfect for smoothies or another recipes, and is even great for sprinkling on oatmeal for a little added protein in your morning breakfast! Combing that with the smooth and creamy taste of Dannon’s Lowfat vanilla yogurt and you have a recipe for deliciousness. You can grab both at your local Walmart, and be sure to add them both to your Ibotta app so you can save $1.50 when you buy them together!
To make your smoothie, just pile the ingredients in your blender, turn it on and let it do it’s magic. This smoothie is so thick and creamy, it’s almost like drinking a milkshake without all of the added sugar and fat. For just a touch of extra sweetness, be sure to drizzle the inside of your glass with a touch of chocolate syrup.
My blender is older now and needs to be replaced (for sure!) so I’ve been eyeing this beauty from Oster®. With the new Oster® Blend-N-Go® MyBlend®, you can just fill, blend & go! With it’s sleek design and one touch power, you can have your morning smoothie even faster than before, with less dishes to wash too.
So the next time you are in the mood for something sweet, step away from the candy and instead pull out your blender and make yourself one of these lighter peanut butter cup smoothies. They are perfect for any time of day and I guarantee your kids will love them too- and if my kids drink them, then you KNOW they are a win!
