Now that we are living in a bigger house, we have many, many more doors- which means I need more wreaths! I wanted to make a wreath for my basement door in the hallway since it was empty and needed some serious love. Since my dining room is across from it and is decorated in a blue and gray scheme, I decided to pull those colors into a wreath and thus this gray and blue yarn wreath was born!
This gray and blue yarn wreath was pretty simple to make and, of course, can be completely customized to whatever colors you wished. I chose to do mostly gray with some blue, white and a touch of yellow, just for some contrast.
I used a 15 inch styrofoam wreath to make this one and chose a heather gray yarn to cover it. The first step was to completely cover the wreath in yarn.
Begin by gluing down one end of the yarn onto the styrofoam and then wrap it around again and again until the whole thing is covered. I had to go around twice, once to do the majority of it, and a second time to fill in any gaps I missed. Be sure to check the sides too, so that when you hand it, you don’t see the white of the wreath.
Once it’s complete, it’s time to make the decorations! For this one, I only used felt flowers to decorate it, but other wreaths, I have glued on flowers or leaves.
I made 15 flowers for this wreath. I made some rolled felt flowers, rosettes and looped mums. In this post, you can see how to make each of these beautiful flowers in detail!
To finish, you will hot glue your flowers on the wreath. You can place them on the side or on the bottom, however you wish! The last thing is to tie a piece of ribbon onto your wreath so you can hang it up. I chose navy for this one. I think this wreath is absolutely beautiful, and it is definitely one of my most favorite ones I’ve made so far!
