Look around….notice anything different? Well you should because I just went through an AMAZING blog design overhaul and I am THRILLED about it!
A few months ago I entered to win a free blog redesign from another Arizona blogger and extremely talented designer, Nicole from The Pixel Boutique. I had always loved Nicole’s work and had already raided a few of her design freebies in the months previous. I’m not a very “lucky” person and never in my wildest dreams would I have dreamed that I ever ever EVER would have won…but guess what? I did. 🙂

I have been blogging now for a year and a half and am proud to say that everything I have done on my blog I have taught myself. With no formal “computer” training, there is a serious learning curve when it comes to blogging. Not only what to write, how to connect with readers how to grow an audience, but then there is the technical side: html coding, pixel sizes, importing, exporting, embedding, and design. When I began my blogging journey I was on Blogger. The nice thing about blogger for a beginner is there are oodles of beautiful “cut and paste” designs that you can just upload and POOF! You have a beautiful new design! WOW, that’s easy, I thought. Wellll…one thing most bloggers learn is that if you want to have a “big girl” blog you need to own it and make the switch to WordPress. So I did. When I made the big switch, I was instantly disappointed with the design “templates” there was to choose from. None of them screamed “Our Three Peas” to me. I kept that original template for a bit and then made the investment to upgrade to Genesis and buy a “framework” that I liked. It gave me a nice style and had lots of features I liked. I could customize it and began to teach myself how to do some basis design work: how to make a header, blog buttons, add widgets to my sidebar, make a signature. I liked it and it was ok. It was kinda like drinking a cheap wine…a really cheap wine. It did the trick, but I hoped someday to be able to upgrade to a “bigger girl” wine.
Here’s my “before” Not too shabby, but there were SO many things I wanted to change, most of them were just too technical for my level of comfort. Changing fonts, embedding signatures, changing PHP files- too scary for me! This was where Nicole’s talents came to shine!!
I began gathering some design ideas and had a rough idea of what I wanted, and what I didn’t want! Nicole gave me a design form and asked me some questions about what I wanted. I choose a color pallet and picked some sites that I liked. I explained what “feel” I wanted: clean, fun and easy to read. I know I am a “mommy blogger” but I didn’t want my site to scream kids! toys! arts and crafts! (Trust me, I have enough screaming in my house anyways, I’d like to avoid that on my blog; thank you very much) Nicole took my ideas, which didn’t seem very detailed to me, and turned them into bloggy gold. Literally my mouth dropped open when I saw her mock up: it was gorgeous! I was like “what?! Did she read my mind or something??!!” It was everything I wanted with me not even saying it. It’s so pretty, clean and fun. It’s everything I wanted and more.
Nicole was so professional and worked quickly. She was excellent at returning emails and answering my questions (and trust me, I had plenty!) It was a great experience overall. She not only changed the look of my blog, but helped me with a few “behind the scenes” things that I just couldn’t figure out. Her design skills are amazing! I mean, did you SEE how she turned the “s” in “peas” INTO three little peas?! I mean, seriously?! How adorable and PERFECT!
