This past week my daughter needed a birthday treat to share with her class and since our school district has requirements about what parents can and cannot bring, I had to choose something sweet but not too sweet. These popcorn balls were the perfect compromise and easy to boot! They take minimal ingredients and made a whole bunch so I only had to make one big batch.
Easy {sticky} Popcorn Balls
2 bags natural microwave popcorn
2 bags mini marshmallows
1/4 c. unsalted butter
dash of salt
non-stick spray
sprinkles (if desired)
– Pop the corn and let it cool. Line the counter with some wax paper so the balls can set on there. Set out your colored sprinkles, if using them.
– While it’s cooling, melt the butter in a large microwave safe bowl. Add in the marshmallows, one bag at a time, and microwave to melt them. I did one minute at a time and stirred in between.
– Spray a large pot or bowl with non-stick spray and then add the popcorn when it is cool.
– After the marshmallow is melted, let it also cool for a few minutes and add the salt. Pour the sticky marshmallow over the popcorn.
– Spray your hands with non-stick spray and stir it by hand, forming it into balls and placing them on the wax paper to set up. I had to respray my hands about after 5 balls, because the mix would get too sticky.
– Sprinkle with the colored sprinkles and let set for an hour.
– After they are set, wrap in plastic wrap individually or place in baggies.
-Makes 25 popcorn balls.
