House cleaning is definitely NOT my favorite activity, but it is a necessity. Since time is not something I have too much extra of, I love little tricks that can make my cleaning jobs go by even quicker. With three toilets (and three kids!) in the house, those are something I have to clean VERY often. Once trick I have is to kind of let the toilet clean itself while you work on something else. These DIY Lavender Orange Toilet Bombs are easy to make and will give your potties an extra clean feeling with almost no work from you!
Who likes cleaning toilets? No one I know! If you have boys in the house, you know this can be a yucky job at times. Good news though, I have found a way to make this job a little easier. Green cleaners are all the rage right now, because who wouldn’t want to clean with a little less chemicals? I like to let my potty sort of clean itself with these DIY Lavender Orange Toilet Bombs. These little gems are like a spa visit for your potty- and they are SO easy to make too! One batch will make 12 mini bombs. I like to use one every week (sometimes twice a week in the kids bathroom!), so with just a little bit of prep, you can have clean toilets for months!
To make one batch, you’ll need:
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid, you can find some near the dish soap
30 drops of any essential oil, I used a lavender-orange blend
a mold, I used an old ice cube tray
In a large bowl, combine the baking soda and citric acid and stir well, then add in the essential oil and mix. Once that’s done, you will want to pour some vinegar into any spray bottle and begin misting the mix and stirring it up. You don’t want to pour the vinegar in since that will cause it to fizz up with the baking soda, which will lead to less cleaning power later. Just spray some, then stir, spray, then stir, over and over again until your mix begins to clump up, holding together some. Once it’s reached that point, scoop it into an ice cube tray and push it down, then you’ll want to leave it to dry for a few hours, or overnight.
Once you take them out of the mold, store them in a air tight jar and you are good to go! When it’s time to clean the bathrooms, just place one toilet bomb in each potty and let it fizz up and do it’s job. While it’s cleaning, you can focus on cleaning the other parts of the bathroom. For my counters, sinks and tubs, I love to use two different Scotch-Brite® sponges: the non-scratch (for my more delicate surfaces) and the heavy duty (for my tougher jobs). These quality sponges really help you to scrub the mess away so fast you’ll wonder what to do with your extra time!
I can grab these sponges at my favorite store Target in the cleaning aisle. They are such a great price too, so I always buy extra just incase. The green heavy duty sponges are great for the bathroom, kitchen or outside really working hard to eliminate baked on grease on pots, pans or even the grill. The blue non-scratch sponges are for more delicate surfaces and are great for the everyday cleaning of sinks, dishes, shower stalls or windows.
I also love the Scotch-Brite® Heavy Duty Soap Dispensing Dishwand for the same reason. It has the benefits of the heavy-duty sponge with the convience of the dish soap right inside so it saves me time and helps to get the grease and grime off of baked on items like pots, pans and oven racks! They are also great for the grill.
After I let my toilet bomb dissolve, I can just wipe down the seats and around the potty, flush, and I’m good to go. Now I cleaned my bathroom in half the time with less chemicals. Since the Scotch-Brite® sponges are such a great price, I can keep separate ones in each bathroom for cleaning toilets and different ones for the sinks and counters. Target even usually has additional coupons on their Cartwheel app so I can save even more! (Score!)
So, we all know that cleaning isn’t the most fun job, but with these easy to make DIY Lavender-Orange toilet bombs and my trust Scotch-Brite® sponges, I can have a super clean bathroom in no time. While you are at Target, be sure to check out Scotch-Brite’s® other awesome cleaning tools, so your time saving techniques can extend into the kitchen as well!
