Anyone that knows me, knows I love chai tea. Like love love it. Like if I could marry a drink, chai would be it. (sorry, husband!) I have been drinking chai for-ev-er and just love how it’s great for all seasons and is my go-to at Starbucks. I also like to make it at home, which helps to save me money, calories and my sanity if I can’t get out of the house. Like always, I am currently trying to watch my calorie intake so the the other day when I got home from the gym and hadn’t had breakfast yet, but also wanted a chai I got the idea of mixing chai in my smoothie and thus this amazingly delicious chai tea protein smoothie was born.
To be honest, I have no idea why I hadn’t thought of this before. It’s so simple and really was the best smoothie I have had in awhile- and with a calorie total of just about 300 calories, it’s a good breakfast replacement and full of protein too.
This smoothie is made with only 5 ingredients (not including the spices!) and it’s wholesome and filling too. I like buy the Organic Tazo Concentrate at Target- it’s like $3.30 a box and can make me chai’s all week- which is definitely cheaper than $4.21 for my venti for one day. Not that I don’t still treat myself to those too, but it’s always smart to save some $$ when you can (or at least that’s what my husband says!!) Now onto the recipe:
- 1 banana
- ½ c chai concentrate
- ½ skim milk (or any type of milk you wish!)
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 2 T greek vanilla yogurt
- 6 cubes of ice
- dash of nutmeg and cinnamon
- Place all ingredients in a blender, blend until smooth. Sprinkle a little cinnamon and nutmeg on top before drinking.
So easy, right? I am still in shock that I have been drinking chai and smoothies for most of my life and have never thought of combining them! This is absolutely going to be my go-to breakfast for awhile.
Another Chai tea lover! I always treat myself when we’re at Pei Wei since I only drink coffee at home.
Yum! I love chai, definitely one of my favorite drinks 🙂
I have never tried Chai before it sounds delicious though and I do love smoothies too.http://www.fadedspring.co.uk
It’s delicious! It has a spicy taste that’s so yummy.
I like when recipes have interesting stories behind them! It makes them more nutritious I think. I”m not a chai drinker (sorry) but if I was I would definitely make it at home. Homemade stuff is so much better…
I agree! Homemade is always so much better 🙂
So yummy! I love a good chai latte, but a smoothie would at least be healthier and I could feel better about it!
I agree! It’s a nice healthy twist on a favorite drink.

This looks absolutely delicious! I love Chai Tea. I’ve just started drinking protein shakes every day so I cannot wait to try this one out.
I try and drink one everyday too, it’s a great way to get some added protein in your diet.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen “chai tea” and “protein” used in the same sentence, but now I am intrigued!! I may just have to give this a try!
It’s delicious! Its been my favorite breakfast lately 🙂

Thanks for sharing this post… Really I love to make chai. I made it last night for my whole family and they are so happy to take tea. I’m a big fan of tea and coffees because its provide energy to our body and reduce tiredness.
Have you ever tried making a hot version of this? I’ve been looking around for a hot breakfast protein drink. But I’m more of a fan of unsweetened hot tea. Trying to figure something out.
Which protein powder do you use?
