Before we were Mom and Dad, my husband and I loved going to the movies. The big screen, the excitement and the movie theater popcorn all kept us coming back for more. Fast forward nine years and now with three kids, heading to the movies isn’t always an option. Despite how expensive it is, it’s not always easy to get the kids to sit and be quiet in a theater, which is why we just love having “Movie Night” at home! At least twice a month we love renting a new movie or watching an old favorite and settling in to watch and munch on some delicious snacks. For even more fun, we love building a fort for the kids to watch their movie in.
Building a homemade fort is as easy as it is fun! All you need are some chairs, blankets and some imagination and your fort can be transformed into a pirate ship, a castle or even another planet. My kids love helping me create their fort with lots of pillows, cozy blankets and more stuffed animals than we can count- it’s so awesome to see their big smiles and hear their giggles under the fort roof.
Every movie night needs a delicious treat to go along with it and for these social occasions, I love whipping up some of this incredibly easy caramel popcorn. This snack takes around 10 minutes to make and another 10 to cool and then you will be ready to munch on this sweet treat. I love using Pop Secret Butter Flavor popcorn for this recipe because of the consistency in cooking and delicious taste when it’s complete.
To make this popcorn, you will need:
3 bags of Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 (14 oz.) can of sweetened condensed milk
Pop your popcorn in the microwave and let it cool in a large bowl. While it’s cooling, make your caramel by melting the butter, sugar, and corn syrup in a small sauce pan on medium heat until it’s all combined. While constantly stirring, pour in the condensed milk and bring it to a low boil. Let it continue to boil while you are stirring it, then remove from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Pour the caramel over the popcorn and stir gently with a large spoon. On a piece of wax paper, spread out your popcorn for it to cool and it is ready to serve!
I just love how these nights help combine our family love of movies, being together and imagination and help to make long lasting memories that we can cherish forever. Building the fort is half the fun and my husband and I love to get as creative as we can while constructing it! It’s such a fun family event to use our combined ideas to take our regular movie night from ordinary to extraordinary, and the sweet caramel popcorn with Pop Secret is the best to fuel us on our fort building and movie night journeys.
