This past week, we traveled all the way from AZ to MA to visit with my family for a week. We did so much and had such an amazing time! I wanted to share some highlights with you all in a two part series- we were so busy, there’s no way to fit it all in one post!
We began our journey with some heavily packed suit cases, well-prepared snack bags and enough electronic devices to keep a small army (or my three peas) occupied. We awoke at 2 am and were out the door by 2:30 to arrive on time and be on our flight at 6:30 am. Did the kids sleep in the car? Nope. The plane? Nope. But they did VERY well. They were well behaved, quiet and busy the whole trip. It was fun.
We arrived in Boston unscathed, processed to get our car rental and drove the hour to my sister’s house. Driving from the airport and looking out the window, I felt so at ease. In Tucson, I always feel like I’m holding my breath, just waiting to exhale. Seeing all the trees, the cooler weather and the ocean smell, I knew I was home and I could breathe again. The kids were ecstatic to see one of their cousins that day, my sister’s daughter. It was so great to give my sister a big hug. I haven’t been home in a year in a half, when I had flown home to see my mom for the last time. It was a bittersweet trip this time, in a sense, since this was the first time being here in AZ that I hadn’t flown home and seen my mama. I knew she was watching us though and was more than thrilled to see all her kids and grandbabies together again.
Thursday: Beach Day
Yes, It’s October but this day happened to be unseasonably warm so we headed to the beach, with the plan to let the kids to play in the sand and put their feet in the water…turns out I should have just brought their bathing suits because they ended up soaked anyways!
We went to Nantasket Beach, which was the beach I went to a lot as a kid and high-schooler. It’s not the fanciest of beaches and their are lots of nicer ones, but we hit this one up because Mr. Pea wanted to see the old military forts at the top of the hill at the end of the beach. We arrived, ready to play and were met by my brother and sister-in-law and their three kids and one of my oldest bestest friends and her two peanuts. It was SO fun.
Later that evening, we had pizza at my brother and sis-in-law’s house. It was great to just hang out, watch the kids play outside and catch up. My Aunt stopped by with my two cousins as well. It was the best!
We woke up early and headed on the train into the city. We spent the morning at the Children’s Museum and had a blast. I’ve been to many children’s museums but this one takes the cake. Four floors of fun, fun, fun! I even got to be on the radio 🙂 This weekend happened to be the 100th birthday of the Children’s Museum. Want to hear my awesome piece?? Check it out here.
Here are some snapshots of all the fun we had this day!
Later that night, my sister was kind enough to watch the peas and Mr. Pea, my brother, sis-in-law and aunt headed back into the city to watch two different comedy shows. One was bizarre but the second was hilarious! I laughed my butt off. So.much.fun.
Saturday: Edeville Railroad
We headed out, early again, to see all the awesome trains and play all day again at Edeville railroad. The kids had a blast and got to ride another real train. The weather was perfect and you couldn’t beat the company! One of the highlights of the day was Jacob seeing Thomas the Train- this railroad park does “A Day Out with Thomas” where they hook a “real” and huge Thomas the Train on the front of the train and charge kids a trillion dollars to see him. Well, as we were exploring, we happened to see Thomas in the shed!!! We were declined our requests just to peek at him, so we just took matters into our own hands. One brave and determined Aunt made Jacob’s day by allowing him to look at Thomas in the shed. But you never heard that from me 😉 Here are some highlights of the fun we had that day!
That night Mr. Pea and I had dinner with my three oldest and bestest friends on the planet! I am waiting for my friend to give me her pictures of us from that night, so tomorrow I will post my second Boston or Bust post and start at Saturday night!!
Can’t wait to share more!!
