When you think of “summer” what comes to mind? Beaches, long evenings spent outside, traveling? Perhaps cookouts and family get togethers are on the list or maybe just relaxing by the pool- no matter what you’re planning summer time food and drinks are a must have. To me, summer isn’t complete with an ice cold pitcher of iced tea on the table. Whether it’s black tea or herbal tea, iced tea is the quintessential summer time drink. One of my favorite recipes is this Summertime Pomegranate Basil iced tea- simple to make and perfect to sip on- any Bigelow Iced Tea is the best drink for making summer time memories with!
We love to travel in the summer, always trying to fit in a family vacation and maybe some additional weekends away, but much of my summer is spent at home with my kids. To me, one of the best summer memories as a kid was just playing outside till it was much past my bedtime since it was so bright out. I’m carrying on this tradition with my kids, and love to have a glass of ice cold tea by my side. I love watching my kids play for hours in the warm summer sun with their friends and how they are creating memories that will last for a life time. When I sip my tea on the back patio, it takes me back to when MY mom did the same when we were kids. It really is a wonderful feeling to be creating such fond memories for my own kids the way that my mom did for us. When it’s summer, I only brew my tea from tea bags and not those ready-to-drink mixes. Brewing from tea bags gives your drink such a rich and deep flavor and I love how you can so easily customize your recipes too! It also reminds me of the way my mom made it when we were kids. One of my favorite Iced Tea recipes is a simple one but absolutely perfect for summertime: Pomegranate Basil. Sounds amazing right? This tea is super easy to make too and only takes a few ingredients.
When I make homemade iced tea, my favorite type to use is tea from the Bigelow family. I love how this tea is 100% American made by an American family and sold locally at my neighborhood Walmart in a variety of flavors. For this recipe, I use Bigelow’s Pomegranate Pizzazz herbal tea but you can also use some black tea from their American Breakfast Blend collection too-no matter if you choose black or herbal tea, you can know you are getting a delicious product grown and crafted with care.
One of the best things about Bigelow is their commitment and support of our American troops. To date, almost 4 million bags of tea have been sent to troops overseas with Bigelow’s Tea for Troops program and a portion of all the sales of the American Breakfast Blend go to say “thank you” to them as well. If you want to learn more about this amazing program, check out their website Tea for Troops.
So before your next summer time celebration, whether it’s your 4th of July party or just chatting with some neighbors on the porch watching the kids play, be sure to have some fresh iced tea brewed and ready to go!
