Back to school is in full effect! With school, comes new backpacks that need to be filled with what kids want in them and what they need. Help to keep your kids happy and healthy this school year by remembering these simple backpack essentials for kids.
Chapstick
I know that I am a daily user of ChapStick so in order to keep dry lips at bay, I like to pack each of my kid’s their own ChapStick in their bags! They are small, easy to open and great for fall and winter when things get drier out. We love each of the different flavors of them, there’s something for everyone. They are truly a backpack essential!
Water Bottle
I always back a bottle of water, preferably reusable, for my kids everyday. This is a great thing to have on hand and most teachers allow them to have them by their desks or on a back counter. Being hydrated is always important!
Hand Sanitizer
It’s a good idea to keep a small bottle of liquid hand sanitizer in or attached your child’s backpack for use between classes or before they eats a snack or lunch. Hand sanitizers are very effective at killing bacteria and it’s less messy and easier than soap and water, so it’s a great way to help keep germs at bay.
Paper Organizer
If your child’s teacher doesn’t give you a folder or binder, be sure to pack one so important papers don’t get lost or smashed to and from school each day.
Pencils
Keeping some pencils in your kid’s backpack will ensure they always have some available, and may even give them the chance to get a head start on their homework!
Tissues
Once cold and flu season rolls around, it is smart to keep a small packet of tissues in your child’s bag. They are handy to keep runny noses at bay, and are an ideal way to keep germs from spreading during coughing and sneezing.
Emergency Info
For younger kids or children with medical issues a Medical Emergency Form or Contact Form is a really good idea to keep inside of their backpack. Some things to include would be:
Parent’s names
Parent’s home, work and mobile telephone numbers
Child’s name
Child’s school name and address
Child’s teacher’s name
Allergies
Medical information: For example, diabetic
Name of hospital
Hospital telephone number
Also, don’t forget to write your child’s name on or inside the backpack and lunch box!

A snack and chapstick
Some of our backpack essentials are his snack for the day, chapstick is a must for his lips when they are chapped, tissues cause our little one gets bloody noses when it gets so dry outside in the fall….and we always put in a couple bandaids just in case he gets a cut at school (he loves wearing bandaids LOL)
