Is seasonal sinus pressure and congestion getting you down? Do you #FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)? Don’t let these symptoms run your life and keep you from missing out on the things that are most important to you! Spring is about warmer weather, outside time, sports and green everywhere…but that can also mean allergies that can cause sinus pain and pressure. Here are five ways to help you combat those dreaded symptoms so you can get back into enjoying your life again.
1. Take a probiotic
Besides the fact that everyone can benefit from the boost that probiotics can give in the form of digestion, they can also help to increase your immune system, which can potentially help to correct any root causes that are leading to your sinus pain. You can get them naturally in yogurts or try and over the counter brand.
2. Take more Vitamin C
Just like with the probiotic, taking some extra vitamin C can benefit you by helping your body prevent the forming of histamine, which is what causes common seasonal complaints like watery eyes, excess mucus, congestion and a runny nose. Again, get it naturally in foods like citrus and orange juice or you can take some over the counter vitamins with vitamin C in it.
3. Get a good quality HEPA air filter in your house and change it often
You don’t want to keep stale air in your house, so feel free to open your windows and invest in a good quality HEPA air filter for your house and change it every few months, this will help keep the air being recirculated back into your house much cleaner and better to breathe. You can do the same for your vacuum, which will help keep dirty air from your rug being pumped back up into the air you are breathing.
4. Wash all your bedding and towels with HOT water
I know I try and wash with cold water, not only to save money but its better for the environment, but during spring it’s best to kill those dust mites and dander by washing your bedding with hot water. These microscopic insects love to live on your bedding and stuffed animals. So wash all of your bedding in hot water and drying it in a hot dryer to kill dust mites at least once a week in water that’s 130° F or higher to limit the effects of indoor allergies that can cause sinus pain and congestion.
