St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner and whether you are Irish or not like we are, it is still a fun holiday to celebrate! There are so many simple and silly ways to make this day special for your kids that, best of all, don’t include gifts, like most holidays do! So this St. Patrick’s Day, spend it wearing green and celebrating the luck of the Irish with these 5 ways to make St. Patrick’s Day fun for your kids!
Have some Green Milk
Start your St. Patrick’s Day off with some green milk! Just add in a drop or two of green food coloring in each of your kids classes of milk to make their glass of milk, or bowl of cereal green! To make it even more fun, pretend that the St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun did it.
Eat a Rainbow Snack
Make your St. Patrick’s Day kid’s snacks even more fun by serving something from every color of the rainbow! Try red strawberries, orange orange slices, yellow pineapple, green apple slices, blueberries, and purple grapes or munch on some rainbow cereal. Either way your kids will love it and you will love how healthy it is!
Serve an Irish Dinner
Be adventurous and try serving a traditional Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage with a side of Irish soda bread for dinner. It may be new to your kids, but if you play some traditional Irish music during your meal, your kids may get into the holiday spirit and eat it! Hunt for Leprechauns
This one is fun for kids for big and little kids. When you have a few quiet minutes away from the kids, hide some gold chocolate coins around a few rooms of your house (be sure to put away any pets!) and place a fun note written by the St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun where the kids can see it.
Stuck on what to write? Try this:
“Traps, tricks, and tip toes, you never learn.
A leprechaun can outwit you at every turn.
You’ll never find me, or the gold I hide,
The luck of the Irish is on me side.”

Create some Rainbow Art
While the kids are snacking on their gold coins, settle them down with a nice rainbow themed craft! You can keep it simple and make a colorful cereal rainbow, by gluing on rainbow cereal in a red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple pattern.
Once they are done with that, string together some cereal in rainbow order and make a cereal necklace! All you will need is cereal, yarn and a paper shamrock and you will have a fun and edible necklace!
So, make this St. Patrick’s Day the year to start making some new family traditions by trying a few (or all!) of these fun ideas. Your kids will love celebrating this fun holiday and you will love how simple they are to do. Best of all, none of these ideas really cost any money and very little planning- and what parent wouldn’t be thrilled about that!
