Gift giving can go one of two ways: either you absolutely know what to get someone or you cannot think of one thing! No matter what age, gift giving can be harder than you think! What do they want? What do they need? Do they have this already? These questions and more can go into choosing the perfect gift. If you are stuck on ideas, I’ve gathered up 5 tips for choosing that perfect gift for that special someone on your list.
1. Brainstorm Ideas
Make a list of all the things the person is interested in and things that define who they are. Make a long list full of ideas, this will give you lots to work with! After, brainstorm something to go with every item on that list, small or big. You don’t have to give all of those gifts, but you’re going to hit on some neat and personalized ideas you wouldn’t have otherwise, and when you combine a few of them, your friend/family member/spouse will appreciate how personal and thoughtful you were.
2. Need vs Want
Ask yourself what that person needs. Not like socks and underwear type needs, but more fun needs. Do you have a busy mom friend on the list? There are tons of products out there to help people run their lives more efficiently or maybe even something she’s been wanting to do but just can’t find the time for (maybe a home pedicure kit?) Thinking on a more general level will help you get outside your regular everyday view of that person.
3. Do some stalking.
If all else fails, stalk. Many people have a wishlist on Amazon or a personalized pin board of dream items on Pinterest. If you are stuck for ideas look through their social media for clues or places they’ve visited or articles they’ve shared- it may just spark a fun idea for you!
4. Make the present an event.
Get creative with the packaging! Rather than just handing them a gift in regular wrapping paper, think of the gifting experience as an event–and you want to make sure they enjoy it. Try a scavenger hunt to find it, which is perfect for kids, or a silly “never ending box” type wrap. And never, ever, underestimate the sheer fun of unwrapping presents. Sometimes, quantity can mean quality, when it’s a bunch of small individually wrapped items.
5. Make it personal
Everyone loves a personalized gift! Something that’s just perfect for THEM. When I am shopping for personalized gifts, I love Personal Creations. They have just an enormous and diverse selection of presents for any person, age or theme. For Easter once, I ordered my kids their own personalized Easter baskets- they just loved seeing their own names on them and now we can leave them out year after year for the Easter Bunny to fill up. This Father’s Day I wanted to get something for my husband to hang in his new office so I chose this fun and personalized canvas that showed off his favorite football team. They have such high quality standards and have tons to choose from- like seriously an amazing amount of products! So the next time you are looking for gifts, whether it’s for Christmas, a wedding, birthday, graduation, or just because; stop by Personal Creations to see what they have to pick from!
So the next time you are in the “I don’t have a clue what to get this person!” camp, these five tips can certainly get the creative juices flowing and get you started choosing the perfect gift for them.
