So you finally bite the bullet and do those home renovations you’ve been wanting to do: new counters, floors, stairs or paint. No matter what it is, you want to be sure it looks as great as it does on day one, everyday. Cleaning these don’t have to be complicated or time consuming though, with the right products and tricks you can have it done in no time! These 5 tricks for cleaning your new home renos will help make it even faster and more simple so you can keep your home looking beautiful all year round.
Floors
We just ripped out all of our carpet and dated tile and replaced it with brand new all hardwood flooring and it look FANTASTIC! The only problem? It’s a darker shade and shows dirt, dust and dog hair much easier than the tile. While this does mean a little more cleaning for me, its worth it since they are so beautiful. Even though I am sweeping more frequently, that doesn’t mean I am spending more time on it. With the help of my Swiffer Sweep + Vac, I am clean up the dirt, dust and dog hair in just seconds.
No joke, that above picture is just from ONE use and just from ONE day. Yes, that’s how much dirt and grime my kids and dog bring into my house every day. I use my Sweep + Vac every day and get all this yuckiness off of my floor and into the trash easy peasy.
To get my floors shiny and clean, I use my Swiffer Wet Jet with the wood floor cleaner. It works quickly to get the dirt up and the special formulated cleaner doesn’t leave streaks. I love how I can ditch the mop and bucket too and just use a new pad every time I mop.
Using the Sweep + Vac and Wet Jet helps to keep my beautiful wood floors looking great, shiny and dust free in just a few moments!
Kitchen and Bathroom Counters
After installing my granite countertops, I honestly wondered how I ever lived without them. They are stunning to look at and so durable- and pretty easy to clean!
First, get rid of the crumbs and any loose dirt by using a Swiffer duster. The no scratch surface quickly lifts the dust up and then I just use some soap and water to clean it.
Tile Backsplash
I clean my new glass tile backsplash pretty much the same way as the countertops. Usually dusting and cleaning with a warm soapy sponge will get rid of most of the dirt, but for any yucky spots, I love using an Magic Eraser! It easily removes any tough spots, and also works amazingly on removing sticky tags on glasses, removing crayon off of walls or tables and caked on dry maple syrup- all of which I have much personal experience with.
Stairs
We used to have carpet on the stairs, and thankfully got rid of that during renovations! We now have beautiful dark wood steps and white risers, and will eventually have black painted banisters and trim. These steps get a ton of traffic every day so they get dirty fast, to clean them I just dust and sweep up the dirt- using chemicals on shiny steps is probably not the best idea because you don’t want any sticky residue on them.
Use your Swiffer duster to quickly get the dust and dog hair off of them and let the natural beauty shine through them!
New Furniture
Keep your new furniture clean by vacuuming between the cushions every week and spot clean spills right away. Don’t let any spills sit, or else chances are they will turn into a stain!
By using the right products, they can not only keep your new home renovation looking day one fresh, but also save you time and money! Need more home tips? Check out these from Jonathan Scott from HGTV!
