Birth order plays an important role in your life and affects all sorts of things- whether you believe it or not! Being the oldest has certain perks, like having the most photos, everyone being so excited for everything you do, and no hand me downs! Being the middle can have it’s perks, like being the peace keeper, having an older sibling to look up to and also a youngest to blame things on- but what about the youngest? Being a middle child myself, I have to say that being the youngest kid has A LOT of perks- and today I’ll share my top ten perks of being the youngest child in a family!
Oh…the babies of the families- they are a special breed all of their own, huh?? I suppose being the youngest can be hard sometimes. The more you get special treatment from your parents for being the baby, the more your siblings will tease you — not to mention you have the weight of having to live up to your older siblings’ accomplishments on your shoulders. Still, it can’t be denied that there are some major perks to being born last in a family!!
1.You get to see the doctor less since Mom and Dad have already been through everything with your older siblings so they are pros now.
2.Your baby book is almost empty, so you have more liberty to ad-lib your childhood!
3.You can guilt your parents into pretty much anything and really get away with EVERYTHING.
4.Your older siblings have already lowered your parents expectations, so your life is smooth sailing.
5.You get to hang out with your older siblings older and cooler friends.
6.More people to get you into parties.
7.You’ll always have a ride.
8.You have automatic body guards for life.
9.You won’t get in trouble for breaking things since they were probably already broken anyways.
10.Between all of the hand me downs, and new things because your mom felt bad that you had so many hand me downs, you have SO.MUCH.STUFF!
Having a younger brother and a baby of my kids, I have to agree that these are all true!!
I think you’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head. Being the first born of five meant I didn’t get many perks, just responsibilities. Plus being one year older than the second child meant I didn’t even get to enjoy being an only child.
My youngest sister did get to do a lot of things that I wasn’t allowed to do. When there weren’t enough treats or snacks to go round, being the first born meant that I had to go without, so the youngest always got a treat.
As she got older she would ask me for money and even a phone before asking our mum. I’d come home from school and find her and her friends sitting in my room on my computer and when it came to school work I was always expected to help the others, though didn’t have anyone to help me.
Being the youngest really is a sweet ride.
