Adulting can be hard. It’s a constant struggle of needing to do things: work, clean, taking care of the kids- you name it! It’s exhausting. Thankfully there are plenty of ways to save yourself some time, so you can relax more and “adult” a little less. Cleaning is one activity that I feel I am never truly done with, once I take care of one room, another one just “magically” appears to be dirty again (thanks kids!); which is why I have rounded up these 10 cleaning shortcuts to make adulting easier!
It’s no secret that I seriously loves me some Swiffer products. The level of efficiency they have makes cleaning so much easier for me and saves me tons of time. They definitely work hard so I don’t have to use as much effort-which is very important to me. This year Swiffer is celebrating it’s 18th birthday, and they are here to celebrate! Nothing cleans a busy life like Swiffer and they are on a mission to show everyone how to make those adulting situations easier, so you can live in a clean house without spending your life cleaning it.
Map a Cleaning Route
Make your cleaning easier and save time walking back and forth by working smarter not harder. For a one-story house start with a corner room and work inward. If you have a two-story house, start with a room at the top corner of your home and work your way in and down. Clean each room completely before moving on and you’ll save energy and time!
Break up Chores
I like to clean one room each day, so I don’t feel like I am “wasting” a whole day cleaning! You could do one room per day or instead, break it apart and do sections, like upstairs then downstairs.
Keep your Cleaning Products Organized
Don’t waste precious time looking for your products, keep things nice and organized so it’s easy to get your work done. Consider keeping a tub of products upstairs and downstairs too, so you don’t have to run up and down the stairs! In addition to keeping a few baskets of cleaning supplies, consider having a main area to organize your items. If it helps you, create some customized cleaning and supply checklists where you can hang daily, weekly, and monthly chores on a small bulletin board in the cleaning center. Then when a product is running low, you can write it on the list before the next shopping trip.
Use Products That Can Serve Dual Purposes
Save time and money by using products that can be used in multiple ways, such as cleaners that can be used on a variety of surfaces, or tools that be used in multiple rooms. This is why Swiffer products are always on hand in my house- their little dusters and sweeper pads can be used on my floors, blinds, counters, tables and even the stairs! One item does the job of many so I am done even faster.
Keep Toys Organized
If you have little kids, be sure to keep a basket for toys in every room so you can clean up easier. Also, having a basket for items that need to be brought to a different room is a quick and easy way to clean up in a hurry!
Make Dusting Easier
By using Swiffer dusters, you are picking up more dust and dirt even faster- thus saving you time and energy! Use your Sweeper pads on your wood stairs too, keeping them dust and dirt free without any sticky products. Dust top to bottom too, so you don’t have to dust twice. After you dust blinds and baseboards use a dryer sheet on them to keep dust from settling on them again so soon.
Make Dishwashing Simpler
Make dishwashing easier by loading in a smart way. Put all forks in one compartment, all knives in another, and all spoons in another. When it’s time to restock the drawer, you get to skip the step of sorting and save time!
Make Shower Cleaning Easier
After you take a shower, give the glass door and sink a quick wipe-down. You’ll have less soap scum to deal with later, saving you time.
Keep All Purpose Wipes in the Kitchen and Every Bathroom
I love to keep a stash of all natural cleaning wipes in like 5 rooms of my house- this way it’s easy to wipe down a dirty counter and keep your rooms cleaner more of the time.
Employ Your Kids To Help
If your kids are older, have them help you clean! They can start with simple tasks like tidying up and then as they get older you can have them sweep the floors and dust the counters. Thankfully we use Swiffer products, and they are so simple and easy to use, even my 7 year old can clean up! If you have pets, they can help with that too! These tricks will make teaching them easier.
No one likes to clean, but it has to be done! Use these tricks and tips to help you get your “have to” jobs done faster so you will have more time to tackle your “want to do” lists.
